On Friday 18th September 2026, we were delighted to bring the Holmlands Adventure Film Festival to Wreay Village Hall near Carlisle for a very special evening celebrating independent adventure filmmaking from around the world.
Taking place on the eve of Holmlands’ 10th birthday, bringing the festival to a venue close to our roots felt like the perfect way to mark such an important milestone.
Audiences joined us at Wreay Village Hall to experience six films on the big screen, including five UK Premieres, with stories spanning trail running, glaciers, sailing, conservation, hiking and cycling. The programme brought together a wonderfully varied collection of adventure stories, from intimate personal journeys to ambitious expeditions and powerful stories about the places we explore.
The evening opened with Clean Miles, followed by the UK Premieres of El Llanto del Glaciar, Windward, Komarnica: The Wild That Remains and Postcards from the Peaks. The first half of the evening concluded with a special Q&A with filmmaker and mental health campaigner Stu Skinner, who joined us to share the story behind Postcards from the Peaks and talk about his own experiences.
After the interval, we returned to the big screen for Desert Lilies, completing an evening that took audiences from the mountains and glaciers of Europe to the roads of the Alps and beyond.
We were also delighted to welcome Dan Mason, who provided live music before the films and helped create a brilliant atmosphere as audiences arrived and settled in for the evening.
A huge thank you to Dan and Stu for being part of such a special night, and to everyone who came along to support the festival. Having the opportunity to celebrate Holmlands’ 10th birthday with an audience so close to home made the evening particularly meaningful.
It was brilliant to see Wreay Village Hall filled with filmmakers, adventurers, friends, supporters and film lovers, and to share another evening of independent adventure filmmaking with the Carlisle community.
