On our marks for superhero triathlon
Holmlands are thrilled to be participating in this year's Superhero Triathlon at Dorney Lake on August 18th, as members of the Disability Snowsport UK team.
The event is part of the only sports series in Britain dedicated to the UK’s 13.3 million people with disabilities, inviting participants with any kind of disability to go solo, or unite with family and friends to take on unique challenges with as much or as little time and support as they need.
Our Founder and Director Cameron Hall, will be teaming up with Winter Paralympian Chris Lloyd to raise funds for DSUK, as the pair take on the swimming and cycling elements of the half distance triathlon respectively.
Chris, 44 from Wales, was involved in a rally car accident in September 2011; breaking his back, damaging his neck and crushing his spinal cord, leaving him paralysed from the neck down. He was told he would never ski again.
Determined to prove his medical consultant wrong, Chris reinvented himself, through meditation, self-hypnosis and positive visualisation – setting a goal that one day he would compete at the Paralympics.
In March 2018, Chris competed for Paralympics GB at the Winter Paralympic Games in PyeongChang, South Korea in the Men’s Downhill and Super G events, fulfilling his dream.
He says, "I hope my journey inspires people to believe that anything is possible in life, as long as you have the determination and are prepared to work hard - you can accomplish whatever you set your mind to."
Chris is also one of twenty seven Celebrity Team Captains that will be showing their support for a series that throws out restrictive rules and regulations that can deter or prevent many people with disabilities from taking part in mass-participation events. As a celebrity Captain, Chris will be competing in a separate race with two lucky competition winners.
Holmlands Founder and Director Cameron Hall says, "We are longtime supporters of DSUK and are proud to be representing the charity in the Superhero Tri 2018. Having worked closely with Chris Lloyd before, during and after the Winter Paralympics - it's a real honour to be competing in the triathlon together. Chris is simply one of the most humble and inspirational people we know!"
