The Mighty Cosmos Kickstarter Campaign Launch
At Holmlands, we've always believed the most powerful stories are the human ones. For the past few months, we've been working behind the scenes on one of the most ambitious projects we've ever been involved with, and we're incredibly proud to finally share it...
Today, we're launching a 45-day Kickstarter campaign to raise £50,000 towards the next stage of production of 'The Mighty Cosmos' — an extraordinary feature documentary about football, survival, displacement and hope.
This is an all-or-nothing campaign, so we need to reach 100% of our £50,000 target for the funds to be released. Every pledge, whatever the size, genuinely matters.
We're supporting the production of the film, directed by filmmaker Darren Hamlin and working in close partnership with The Mighty Cosmos Football Club and the remarkable people whose story the film tells.
Alongside production support, Holmlands is leading the project's PR, communications, social media campaign as we work together to bring this extraordinary story to audiences around the world...
The film follows a group of young men who fled the conflict in Darfur, Sudan, escaping unimaginable violence before finding refuge in camps across the border in Chad. It was there, through the simple act of kicking a football around, that hope began to return.
That journey would eventually take them to Sweden, where they rebuilt their lives and founded The Mighty Cosmos — a football club that has become far more than a team.
Today, the club stands as a powerful symbol of resilience, helping refugees settle into a new country, supporting mental health initiatives and demonstrating football's unique ability to bring people together across cultures and communities.
When we first heard the players' experiences, we knew this was a story we wanted to help bring to life. Not simply because of the football, but because of the extraordinary courage, resilience and humanity shown by the people at its heart.
At a time when conversations around refugees can so easily lose sight of the individual, The Mighty Cosmos reminds us that behind every headline is a person, a family and a story worth telling.
Our £50,000 Kickstarter target represents the first major funding milestone for the film.
Reaching it will allow us to move confidently into the next phase of production, including principal photography in Sweden, securing essential archive material and beginning the editing process.
Kickstarter is one part of a much wider fundraising strategy. Alongside the campaign, we'll continue seeking sponsorship, grants, partnerships and private investment, with the ambition of raising more than £150,000 overall to realise the film's full creative potential.
That additional funding will allow us to go further — spending more time with the players, their families and communities; capturing additional perspectives connected to Sudan, Chad and Darfur where it is safe and practical to do so; licensing more historical archive; and investing in the cinematography, original music, sound, colour grading, post-production, festival strategy and international distribution needed to give the film the reach it deserves.
The Kickstarter campaign runs for 45 days, and because it is all-or-nothing, we need your help to reach the target in full. So whether you pledge £10, £50, £100 or more, you'll be helping take this remarkable story one step closer to the screen.
